Meeting with Aurélie Saada

This French singer-songwriter is best known for having founded the indie folk group Brigitte. This year she is taking her career in a different direction by directing her first film, “Rose”, which will be in cinemas from December 8.

What is your most emotional experience?
The birth of my daughters; when those two little women came into my life, everything changed (and directing Rose, my first film, was actually a bit like giving birth to another child).

Can you tell us about an epicurean enjoyment?
For me it would be the challah bread for Shabbat that I make with rosemary and za’atar. When it’s fresh from the oven, I love to tear off a piece and dip it straight into some olive oil and fleur de sel. It’s heavenly.

What does elegance mean to you?
Boldness, personality, character, courage. For me elegance has nothing to do with discretion or silence.

What’s your most wonderful travel memory?
I went on two fairly unique trips with my daughters to celebrate each of their 10th birthdays. Each of them got to choose a destination and we went together, just the two of us. Shalom took me to Venice, where we cried together in front of Judith II by Klimt. Scarlett took me to the desert by the Dead Sea and to the wonderful Oasis of Sin Gedi; it was incredible.

What spurs you on?
I like to be surprised, to shake things up. I like adventure, to constantly learn new things, change ly habits, dare to be vulnerable and to just go for it, armed with my vulnerability.
