Creation 2
BAPTISTE CALASCIONE
Creation process
” This creation is inspired by the cultural exchanges and mutual fascination between Paris and Venice in the 17th century and is a tribute to French noble dress and sumptuous Venetian masked balls. In this dress, I explore the meeting of tradition and modernity, using shapes and tones that evoke the timeless elegance of the two cities.
The sculptural collar is a contemporary interpretation of the collars once worn by French noblewomen in the late 17th century. Its clean lines give it a modern, sophisticated style. This detail is both a historical allusion and a nod to today’s Parisian aesthetic.
The skirt, meanwhile, is wide and pleated, creating a theatrical, structured effect that evokes the richness and opulence of Baroque dresses, while adding a contemporary sculptural dimension. The large pleats create a sensation of over-volume, evoking the imposing Haussmann architecture of Paris and the majesty of Venice.
The choice of ivory and aged white tones adds depth to the dress, recalling the materials and colours of Venetian palaces and Haussmann façades. This combination is designed to create a delicate contrast between the mystery of Venetian evenings and the luminous purity of the French capital.
This project is a tribute to the artistic and cultural union of these two iconic cities, a bridge between past and present, pomp and simplicity, Venetian theatricality and Parisian sophistication.”
