Creation process
“My project is inspired by the theatrical world that connects Paris and Venice, two cities steeped in history, mystery and elegance. I have explored their shared history through the prism of performance and staging, where clothing becomes a medium of expression in its own right.
Venice, with its carnival tradition, its masks and its Baroque splendour, interacts here with Paris, the capital of sophistication and haute couture, where cabarets and opera have forged a wealth of dramatic imagery. My design takes a fresh look at these influences with a structured shape inspired by a dancer’s movement and lightness, while incorporating an architectural construction that reflects the skill of traditional craftsmanship.
Rather than being overly embellished, the opulence of this outfit lies in the skilful use of ornamentation and the structure of the tiered skirt. The fabric roses, lace and embroidery allude to the sophistication of Baroque costumes, while the black and white adds a timeless elegance. I wanted to recreate a theatrical and poetic feeling without resorting to overly elaborate fancy dress, by creating an outfit that was simultaneously sophisticated, structured and steeped in history. My creation thus celebrates the coming together of Paris and Venice, where clothing becomes a form of expression, a centrepiece that embodies both tradition and innovation.”
