Creation process
“I wanted the silhouette to represent the omnipresent shades of grey in the architecture at the Nolinski. For the crackle-effect finish, I used gallnut dye, which produces a purplish hue that gradually turns bluish-black. Beeswax is then brushed onto the fabric to create the crackle effect seen in the final design. After the wax has dried, the garment is cracked and then dyed again, allowing only the cracks created by the beeswax to be coloured. These represent the marble of the hotel restaurant tables. I’m also thinking of adding touches of silver mylar to echo the silver paint in the piano room. Here are some photos of the wax dye results.”
