Emmanuelle de Boysson, a successful novelist and co-founder of the Evok literary prize jury presents her current book selection.

“Le Grand carnet d’adresses de la littérature à Paris”, (The big book of literature in Paris), by Gilles Schlesser, Séguier editions.

Gilles Schlesser invites us to stroll through Paris, exploring the addresses of over a thousand authors and characters, from Rabelais to Modiano, Gavroche to Swann.
With consummate wisdom, he recounts a host of amusing and unusual anecdotes about writers from near and far, past and present. The historic quarters are reborn with Les Halles, bistros, hotels and former brothels. While Colette and Cocteau loved the Palais-Royal, Scott Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby at the Hôtel des Deux Mondes, 22 avenue de l’Opéra, near the Nolinski Paris hotel. Le Cid was performed for the first time just a stone’s throw from Le Sinner, 86 rue Vieille-du-Temple. Did you know that Simenon lived at 21 Place des Vosges, where Mme de Sévigné and Victor Hugo lived, and that Jean Richepin, who died on Rue de la Tour, was a scandalous author? A seminal book to give as a Christmas present!
